Good morning Royal Sutton Coldfield,

Welcome back to the only Sutton Coldfield newsletter that asks you what you want and then delivers…

Last week I introduced the concept of the Royal Insider ‘support local and save’ Club Card - and hundreds of you were in favour of it.

We also listened to feedback from local businesses and are currently in dialogue with some of your faves to bring you something that will not only encourage you to support your local businesses, but give you a real incentive to do so.

Most of the constructive feedback we had was around it being limited to the town centre - and that’s simply not the case. Sutton Insider covers the whole of Sutton Coldfield and sometimes slightly further afield - and of course we want to help the town centre to thrive like many of our high streets are - but we include the whole of Sutton Coldfield, not just a part of it.

If you have a local business that would like to be part of the first ever Royal Insider card then drop an email to [email protected].

This week we have two first’s for the Sutton Insider newsletter, as we have a new ‘property of the week’ feature and our first giveaway courtesy of Birmingham Prints - so let’s find out more about that and everything else that’s going on this week and get this email started…

SUTTON SPOTLIGHT
Showcasing Quality UK Artists In Sutton Coldfield

I’ve visited Mitchells Shopping (formerly Art & Crafts Centre) many times over the years, but never wandered into the Artifex Gallery assuming it would all be out of my price range.

So when I ventured inside the other day I was surprised to find that they have a very eclectic range of art on display. Yes there are large pieces of art work that cost thousands but there are also smaller pieces, jewellery and prints that are very affordable.

Artifex was established over 30 years ago with the objective of selling high quality arts and crafts. Over time, the collection of work has expanded to include furniture, ceramics, jewellery, sculptures and paintings in an array of different media. They pride themselves on showcasing a wide range of original pieces from artists and makers and often hold events promoting artists from all around the country.

The gallery is much bigger than you would think and I could happily spend an hour browsing the work of such talented artists. If you are struggling to decide which piece would work in your home then they offer to bring a selection of paintings to your house to try them out in situ.

Whether you are looking for a new statement piece for your living room, a special gift or you simply want to browse for inspo - there really is something for everyone. I’m already planning to return for a Christmas shopping trip soon.

SOMETHING DIFFERENT
50 Pairs Of Free Tickets To The Baby & Toddler Show

A Sutton Coldfield grandmother started her own business when her Grandson was born as she wanted to create precious keepsakes in the form of casts, but couldn’t find anyone local to do it.

Sandra Black of Babyprints Birmingham told me:

“When my Grandson was born I wanted to have his casts created and couldn’t find anyone locally to do what I wanted. I decided to do it myself and I then took them to London to have them made in cold metal / bronze.”

Sandra who now works from her Sutton Coldfield based studio went on to say:

“I got talking to them and I was asked to become a franchisee!! After all my training I set up my studio at my home in Sutton Coldfield and I absolutely love it. Clients come from all over to have 3D casts and 2D Impressions created in high quality frames.”

Sandra is exhibiting at The Baby and Toddler Show at the NAEC in Stoneleigh, Warwickshire from 1st to 3rd November and you can find her at Stand B38.

Sandra is offering Sutton Insider readers the chance to bag a pair of free tickets to the show (worth over £30) by simply following her on Instagram and dropping her a DM - you can find and follow her here.

If you miss out on one of the 50 tickets you can also save 40% on tickets using the discount code NAEC11 - full details here.

LOCAL SPORT
Results & Upcoming Games

FOOTBALL:

Sutton Coldfield Town FC struggled last weekend as they went down 3-1 away at Darlaston. This fiercely fought game looked to be heading to a draw before goals from Kieran Cook (76 and 90+7) saw the home side take all 3 points.

The Royals were due to play at home to Walsall Wood on Tuesday but the game was postponed, but you can catch them back on home turf this Saturday as they take on Lye Town at 3pm.

Following the announcement of the renaming of their home ground this week, Boldmere St Michaels followed up last week’s draw with another on Saturday against Anstey Nomads with a 2-2 home draw at what is now called the Amber Arena and Community Stadium.

This week, 10th place Boldmere face 11th place AFC Rushden and Diamonds in what will likely be a tough away trip.

HOCKEY:

Sutton Coldfield Hockey Club Women’s 1st Team found it no easier last weekend as they lost 6-1 at home to Nottingham University on Saturday and 2-0 to Bowdon Hightown away on Sunday. Can they find that first win of the season this Saturday when they take on Holcombe at Wyndley Leisure Centre at 12pm?

The Men’s First Team remain unbeaten and went back to winning ways this week with a convincing 3-0 win at home to Loughborough Town 1. On Saturday they face Belper in the cup - the game starts at 1.30pm at Wyndley.

This week we heard the news that Ash is the company taking over from the recently closed Brewhouse. Ash is an independent free house (not to be confused with the 90’s indie band) and is set to open sometime in December (exact date tbc) and they are already well underway with the refurb.

Ash promises the best of British beef, quality wines and beers. It sounds right up my street so I’ll see you there in December 😃

WHERE IN SUTTON
Where is this picture taken?

This week I need to know not just what this is a picture of but from where it was taken. Can you work it out? If you can, hit reply and let me know. Fastest correct answer will get a mention next week.

Answer to last week: Only a handful of you guessed correctly last week but the fastest was Jamie Richardson who emailed in to say “Chase Farm looking into the small field next to the chicken coop and the goat yard!” When I told him he is was first in he said he’d been waiting for this moment for months - enjoy your moment Jamie 😃
