Good morning Royal Sutton Coldfield,
Welcome back to the only Sutton Coldfield newsletter that’s already given up on its new year’s resolutions.
Only joking, but we are back and raring to go in 2025 - bringing you more of what you love about Sutton Coldfield, the latest news, openings and more.
Having spent far too long in the house over the last few weeks and having had a two week break from writing to you wonderful folk, it’s been great to get back out and about. There’s plenty of reason to look at 2025 with a fair amount of optimism for the Royal Town - and that’s what we are all about.
Which is why it was interesting to read recently that Sutton Coldfield was the 4th happiest place to live in the whole of the West Midlands with only Stratford Upon Avon, Leamington Spa and Lichfield finishing above our Royal Town. Nationally, we are the 36th happiest place to live.
Do you agree? Let us know.
Now let’s take a look at what’s going on this week…

The Friendliest Indian Restaurant In Sutton?
There’s only one thing better than a good curry and that’s a good curry that’s free.
Now I can’t offer you a free curry, but I can tell you where you can get a great one in Wylde Green along with the friendliest of welcomes.
Let me set the scene. Just before Christmas I was delighted to find out that we’d won a £50 voucher to use at Jahed courtesy of a fund raising raffle at my daughter’s primary school. So of course, in the post Christmas slump we found time to treat ourselves to a curry.
Sutton Coldfield is not short of Indian restaurants, and although I’ve tried many, I’d not visited Jahed before. What a mistake.
The interior is pretty bling, maybe not to my taste but not bling enough to put me off the food. And that’s a good thing, as the food was sublime, the staff were some of the friendliest I’ve encountered and the restaurant was busy at 6.45pm when we visited.
It also got a big thumbs up from the kids and we’ll be back soon.
GET INVOLVED
Photography Club Making The Difference
Sutton Coldfield Photography Club has a membership of enthusiastic photographers who aim to focus on improving their photography skills and sharing their pictures. They aim to welcome new members with any level of photographic skill or interest and believe that the best kind of camera is the one you have with you when you see a potentially good image - including your mobile phone!
Meeting on Fridays at the South Parade Church Centre, information about the club and the programme can be found on their website suttonphoto.club.
Alongside presentation evenings, talks from experienced photographers and studio nights with live models, the Photography Club lends its support to a number of charities.
With the enthusiastic contribution of four members they recently put on an Audio Visual Show which raised £1500 for Macmillan Cancer.
They are rightfully very proud of their support for charities and will continue to make it a continuing part of the annual programme.
If you are interested in getting involved - find out more at their website here.
JUST OUT OF SUTTON
LB’s Coffee Shop at Blackbrook Barns
I wish LB’s coffee shop had been open when my kids were little. Not only does it serve an amazing flat white and delicious cakes from Silver Tree Bakery, but also has a soft play area with a difference.
Here you won’t find harsh lights and brightly coloured play equipment, instead they have used a palette of calming natural colours along with soft lighting. The booking system limits the number of children allowed in at any one time, creating a peaceful environment far removed from the usual chaos of soft play.
As well as the soft play area there is a small, cosy indoor cafe which stays quiet and calm despite the play area next door. They also have a covered outdoor area with heaters and cosy blankets if you want to enjoy an alfresco coffee.
LB’s is in the courtyard of the beautiful Blackbrook Barns which is now a wedding venue and also home to a florist, yoga studio, bridal shop, hairdressers and nail salon.

How To Navigate The Bin Strikes
It’s hard enough knowing what day it is during the festive period. Throw in to the mix that the bin days change and it’s carnage in our house. So just when we thought we’d got through that ordeal, waste collection staff are striking one day per week and working to rule.
What does this mean for you? Simply, your bin might not be collected on your usual day.
So far, we’ve been unaffected. But the advice is to continue to put your bins out as normal and they should be collected at some point.
The official strike dates this month are 6,14, 22 and 30 January. You can also report missed collections to the council website.
