Good morning Royal Sutton Coldfield,

Welcome back to the only Sutton Coldfield newsletter that’s wishing it was pay day already.

If the time between Christmas and New Year is known as Twixmas, what’s the middle of January known as? If there’s not a word, there needs to be.

It certainly might seem like one of the longest months of the year, but there’s still plenty going on locally to help you get through it.

This week, we have a mix of free, low cost and not so low cost activities to help get you through this month without going in to full on hibernation mode (something I have been guilty of in the past).

So let’s take a look at what’s going on in our Royal Town…

Classes are scheduled weekly on Sundays for the foreseeable future.

SUTTON SPOTLIGHT
Browns Brasserie Lunch Deal Is A Winner

Yesterday I was pondering which brilliant local establishment to write about for the Sutton Spotlight and decided I needed inspiration - so myself and Laura took up the lunch time deal that is currently on at Browns Brasserie in Sutton Park - and what a great decision that turned out to be.

Having not yet visited since they opened in November I wasn’t sure what to expect. Greeted on entrance and taken to a table through the glorious maze of opulent dining areas, it was nice to see a busy lunch service taking place on a Wednesday afternoon in mid-January.

We opted for the 2 or 3 course lunch menu (I went 2 courses but absolutely no judgement here on Laura who went for 3 😉) and I ordered a smoked salmon starter with rye bread and the steak frites for main. Laura went for the mushroom on sourdough starter and the beef shin ravioli - of course I tried hers (remember no judging here).

I could not fault a single thing about the food or friendly service. The smoked salmon was fresh with a light honey dressing, the steak was perfectly cooked to my liking and dressed with a huge slab of garlic butter - well yes it was delicious and I can still smell it now.

The ravioli was another highlight and took me by surprise, and Laura was full of praise for the homemade apple and plum crumble that’s served in a cast iron pot - so no microwaving here!

The bill for two with soft drinks and 10% service charge came to a very reasonable £55 and we left full, happy and very much needing a walk in the park to burn off the extra calories we’d consumed.

They’ve done a great job rejuvenating this once gloomy interior, with green hues and real plants looking glorious under the plentiful lighting and natural light coming in through the large windows.

If you haven’t visited yet, it’s another jewell in the royal crown of Sutton Coldfield - you can view their menus and book online here.

FREE Life Drawing Class At Inji

Inji and Naomi have teamed up to offer a free (yes free!) life drawing event on Thursday 23rd January from 6pm - 9pm. The idea behind it is to bring people together while doing something that they enjoy.

It doesn’t matter what your level of experience is, the new year is the perfect time to try something new.

One of the waitresses has kindly volunteered to model (fully clothed). There will be a few warm up activities followed by a break and then a longer observation. You can bring your own resources, whether it be a watercolour set, pastels or simply a pencil. Inji and Naomi are providing the venue and the freedom to be as creative as you want.

There are just a handful of spaces remaining and they are filling up fast so if you want to take part message Naomi through her Instagram account.

Inji will be providing amazing food and drinks from their menu, so feel free to pre-order before the event.

Click here to find out more about the event and remember to message to reserve a space.

Warnings Over The Dangers Of Frozen Local Pools

As temperatures plummeted, locals were concerned last week as a teenager was seen walking across the ice at Keepers Pool. Despite passers by shouting at the boy to get off the ice, he persisted, putting his life (and potentially others) at risk.

Please take a moment to again reinforce with our young and vulnerable people the dangers of walking on ice.

It could be someone who runs a local sports club, someone who has volunteered or given their time to something for years for little recognition… anyone who you think makes a difference and deserves a mention.

Sincerely,
