Good morning Royal Sutton Coldfield,

Welcome back to the only Sutton Coldfield newsletter that brings you kickboxing owls.

Sorry, I mean kickboxing and owls - as well as a load of other amazing stuff that is going on locally this week.

Just a quick bit of housekeeping before we get started. Youā€™ll notice the layout of the Whatā€™s On section has changed slightly. Weā€™ve done this to make it easier to read and fit more in - there are still clickable links (where available) so you can still click on most listings to find out more info - but the links are now in the title of the event.

Secondly, as we progress towards 3000 subscribers we will be cleaning up our email list. If you open and read these emails (like you are now) then you donā€™t need to do anything. But if you donā€™t open emails for a month, we will automatically remove you from our list. Nothing personal, it just wasnā€™t meant to be.

Anyway, youā€™re here and reading so weā€™re not breaking up - letā€™s find out whatā€™s happening in Sutton Coldfield this weekā€¦

Your Business Or Event Here

As our readership to Sutton Insider grows we are now looking at ways we can fund and grow the publication.

Each email takes around 6 hours of research, writing and editing - so that of course comes at a cost.

I also believe that we have the perfect platform for local businesses to promote themselves and their events while still retaining our editorial integrity.

What you are reading now is a gold sponsored ad. You can see our ad slot availability and pricing here and you can even book directly online up to 6 months in advance - so you can lock in our current pricing and benefit from our growing subscriber base.

So if you have a business or event that youā€™d like to promote - find out more here or hit reply if you have any questions.

SUTTON SPOTLIGHT
Heavenly Treats In The Centre Of Sutton

This one is not for the calorie conscious but for a treat itā€™s one of the best options in Sutton. Located just a few steps from Pizza By Goli, this high end dessert shop offers more than just something for a sweet tooth - although it does that splendidly.

We visited earlier this year as part of my daughterā€™s 13th birthday celebrations and we were treated like royalty. Perhaps it was the huge 13 balloon bobbing around that prompted it, but the amazing staff made a real fuss of my daughter and even brought out some complimentary additional treats with a candle - not that we needed more!

Iā€™ve been in a few dessert shops over the years, and Heavenly Desserts are right up there with the best. Think cookie dough, waffles, croffles (who knew), crepes, milk cakes, cheesecakes and more - all topped with your favourite luxurious toppings.

Theyā€™ve now started opening for brunch too from 10-4 so Iā€™ll be no doubt trying that soon too.

GET INVOLVED
Ladies Fitness & Fun

Looking to get fit or take up a fun form of exercise? International Kickboxing Academy has been running ladies only kickboxing classes that are designed to boost confidence and build strength in a fun and safe environment.

I spoke with coach Joe who told me the classes are suitable for all abilities and fitness levels and that he is really proud of the amazing community they are growing there.

The adult ladies classes build on their popular kids classes and take place at St Edmund Campion School on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings.

If you want to find out more or book your first trial class, head to the IKA website here.

THINGS TO DO
Senior Cinema Days

Senior citizens of Sutton Coldfield can have a right royal knees up with the introduction of ā€˜Royal Seniorsā€™ every Wednesday morning at the Royal Cinema.

The October line up of films which all start at 11am includes Wicked Little Letters, Dirty Dancing, Back To Black and Mothers Instinct - the cost is just Ā£5 per person and that includes a hot drink and biscuits. What a bargain!

COMMUNITY
Macmillan Take Over In Sutton Park This Saturday

The Sutton Coldfield Sea Scouts run a cafe each week at Boldmere Gate in Sutton Park. They serve tea, coffee and a great selection of homemade cakes and biscuits from 9am - 11am every Saturday.

Normally the proceeds go to help fund Scout Group activities but this week they are joining the rest of the country and donating all the proceeds to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Get yourself down there for a treat and to support a very good cause!

OUT AND ABOUT
Free Family Access To National Trust Locations

Just a reminder that the National Trust are offering a free family pass and you can use it over the next month to gain entry to one of their gardens, castles or houses.

The single use pass allows 2 adults and up to 3 children or 1 adult and up to 4 children access to a National Trust location.

This offer runs up until 18th October but passes are limited so to claim your pass click here.

Meet Others At Sit & Stitch

I hadnā€™t visited Mitchells Shopping Centre for a long time but I still found the old favourites there such as Cafe Ceramica and The Farmhouse Bistro with some new shops I hadnā€™t visited before.

The Knitting Corner beckoned me in with its colourful yarn and display of hand knitted jumpers, crocheted bags and a sign announcing their Sit & Stitch sessions.

I had just missed the Sit & Stitch session but the extremely friendly owners Sarah & Lesley chatted to me about what they offer.

Every Monday from 1pm to 3pm and Wednesday and Friday from 11am to 1pm they have a session where you can bring your own knitting, crochet or embroidery project to work on and sit around a big table with others.

For the Ā£5 charge they provide drinks and cakes, a chance to meet new people and maybe even get some advice on your current project or start something new. It is a drop in session so there is no need to book, simply turn up.

They also have an evening session, which does require booking, on the first Friday of every month from 6:30pm - 9pm which also includes drinks and cake and costs Ā£7 per session.

SOMETHING DIFFERENT
Owl Lounge Opening Soon In Sutton Town Centre

This really is something different and a fascinating story. October will see The Owl Lounge open its doors to the public. Based in The Gracechurch Shopping Centre, the Harry Potter themed lounge will house owls for you to come in and spend time with.

They encourage you to take your own food and drinks, spend time with the owls and they even have Harry Potter fancy dress for the kids to have photos taken.

Iā€™m pretty sure this is Suttonā€™s first ever Owl Lounge (correct me if Iā€™m wrong) and although the grand opening is yet to be announced, it is likely to be the second or third week of October.

It will be open 4 days each week on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday 12-5pm and the owls are brought in from their aviary each day.

When it opens, entrance will be free of charge with donations accepted to help with looking after the owls.

WHERE IN SUTTON
Where is this picture taken?

Was last weekā€™s picture too easy? This one should test you, so be sure to look for the little clues in the image. Will anyone get this weekā€™s ā€˜Where in Suttonā€™?

Hit us with your replies to this email with this weekā€™s answer for the chance to feature next week.

Answer to last week: Last weekā€™s picture was guessed correctly by Laurence Bonner who told us it was of course taken from Windowbox Cafe in Wylde Green on a much warmer day than today. He clocked an impressive 1 hour 18 minutes after first send, so congrats to you Laurence and thank you for your kind words about the newsletter.
