Good morning Royal Sutton Coldfield,

Welcome back to the only Sutton Coldfield newsletter that has it all - style, panache and… actually we don’t have it all, but we have most of it and you’re here so you may as well stay…

In a week that saw ex-Prime Minister Rishi Sunak come to Sutton Coldfield to officially open Silver Tree Bakery - which unusually is a business that has more dough than he has, we have even more good news to share with you as it’s awards galore for some of our local businesses - more on that in a moment.

Many of you have been asking for updates on local sporting events, so this week we have a brand new ‘local sport’ section. We will add to this over the coming weeks so let me know if there’s anything specific you’d love to see in this section or what we’re missing.

It’s action packed this week so let’s go…

SUTTON SPOTLIGHT
More Than ‘Just’ A Farm Shop

When our children were little, Chase Farm Shop and Cafe was a favourite spot for breakfast or coffee on a Saturday morning. They loved seeing the cows and chickens in the adjacent fields, followed by a yummy treat. Now they’re a bit older, we’re too busy taking them to their many sporting fixtures, however this week we made time to pop in and treat ourselves.

The cafe seems to have grown since the last time I visited, now spreading into three different areas as well as having outside seating. As you walk through the door the irresistible smell of their award winning sizzling sausage and dry-cured bacon wafts from the kitchen.

All the ingredients for their infamous Farmers Breakfast come from the farm shop next door and are delivered straight to your table.

We managed to resist the urge to order a full English and instead opted for coffee and cake. They had a good selection of cakes on offer from classics like carrot cake to more interesting options such as cherry and almond panettone. Both were lovely, moist and absolutely delicious.

The farm shop itself has a great fresh fruit and veg selection, a butchers counter, luxury ready meals, a bakery and some exotic spice mixes and sauces. We love having a wander round and picking up something special for dinner but its also a great place to grab presents for the foodie in your life.

Whether you are looking for something tasty to take home, a Sunday roast, breakfast, brunch or lunch then Chase Farm Shop and Cafe has you covered.

There’s no auditions and it’s free - they simply ask for a donation of £4 when you join if you can afford to give it, if not, then no problem, you can get involved at no cost - just bring along your voice.

They are currently rehearsing old favourites and some new songs for a performance next week. If you’d like to get involved then check out their Facebook page or website.

Acorns Mere Green Takes Top Spot For West Midlands

A few weeks ago we asked you to consider voting for Acorns Mere Green for your favourite charity shop across the whole of the West Midlands - and lots of you did.

This week we received a very excited email from volunteer Sheryl Bolden explaining they’d scooped the coveted award!

Nicky Hales, Manager for Acorns Mere Green, said: “I cannot tell you how proud the team feels. I work with a fantastic group of people and it’s their friendliness and dedication that has led to this amazing award.”

She went on to say “Thank you to everyone who has supported us, and to our loyal customers and volunteers who give their time to make sure we succeed and can fund lifeline care and support for the children and families who desperately need us.”

I’m sure you’ll agree that it is well deserved recognition for the fantastic work they do, so if you are in the area, why not pop in and see the West Midlands' favourite charity store for yourself.

CELEBRATE
More Award Winners

We’ve got more awards than politicians in Sutton this week as two of your most loved restaurants also claimed honours.

You may have noticed when you subscribed to Sutton Insider that I always ask for your top restaurant recommendation. So many of you duly inform me of yours and there’s a few that crop up more often than others. Streetly Balti is one of them, and this week they took home the prize of ‘Best Takeaway Service In The West Midlands’.

It’s a true family business that has been running for 32 years - so a huge well done from us at Sutton Insider and we’ll see you soon.

Finally, The Kings Arms on Coleshill Road has been awarded Trip Advisor Traveller’s Choice award. They offer an Indian grill menu and so many of you have been telling us to go - I’ll add it to my list of must visit local eateries.

THINGS TO DO
Don’t Forget Senior Cinema Days

Next week is the turn of Dirty Dancing for the £5 cinema morning at the Royal on Wednesday. The ticket price includes a hot drink and biscuits and you can book online here. This is possibly the best bargain in Sutton.

Robin Hood Coming To Sutton This Christmas

Sutton Coldfield Town Hall is back with it’s Christmas panto this year and stars local talent Lolly (Anna Kumble) and James Bartlett (Hollyoaks and The Dumping Ground) in Robin Hood.

Expect songs, slapstick, silliness and the most dangerous archery competition you’ve ever seen. Will Robin Hood rescue Maid Marion from the clutches of the money grabbing Sheriff of Nottingham?

You’ll have to book a ticket to one of the December showings to find out.

WHERE IN SUTTON
Where is this picture taken?

Last week was a real tough one… is this one any easier? If you know where this is then hit reply and tell me. The fastest correct answer will get a mention next week…

Answer to last week: I didn’t think anyone would guess last week’s picture but once again Laurence Bonner was the fastest with just 55 minutes on the clock when he sent me this ‘Looking from the wheat field towards no. 26 Hillwood Road, Four Oaks’. Impressive local knowledge Laurence - now give someone else a chance this week!

Wow… so much going on again in Sutton Coldfield.

Yesterday, we crossed the 3000 subscriber mark - which is quite incredible in just 3 months - and they’ve flown by!

So many of you ask if you can help or contribute in some way to the newsletter. All I can ask is that you continue to support by reading and share and tell others about it. My aim is to have us at 5000 subscribers by the end of the year and 10,000 by end of next - big plans and big aims - so thank you once again for helping us to share all of the positive things happening in the area.

Sincerely,
