It's Wet Wet Wet this week in Sutton
And we are not just talking about the rain!

WEATHER
Thurs: 21°C ☁️ | Fri: 22°C 🌤️ | Sat: 18°C 🌤️ | Sun: 19°C 🌤️
Good morning Royal Sutton Coldfield,
Welcome back to the only Sutton Coldfield newsletter that offends people by giving them free advertising.
I suppose it was bound to happen sooner or later, and maybe it happened even sooner without us being told - but this week we were well and truly told off by a disgruntled local.
Yes, we received a (very long and accusing) message from a lady who will remain unnamed as we had apparently infringed her copyright by advertising her group in this very newsletter.
She even received 7 email enquiries that mentioned they directly heard about her group from Sutton Insider. I mean - how dare we!!!
Luckily, it will take more than that to keep us from bringing you your weekly dose of ‘what’s going on in and around Sutton Coldfield’ so let’s kick off and see what’s happening this week…

Beat The Rain At Cliff Lakes
As it’s half term (and a rainy one), we decided to try something where getting wet doesn’t really matter - because you’re going to get soaked anyway! Cliff Lakes is home to a huge inflatable obstacle course that seems to grow every time we visit.
For £20, you get wetsuit hire, grippy water socks, and 1 hour 20 minutes of non-stop fun on the inflatables. Even though we have our own wetsuits, we chose to use the rentals this time - they’re thicker, but more importantly, we didn’t have to deal with cleaning or drying them afterwards.
Everything is really well organised, with plenty of lifeguards stationed around the course who are quick to help if you get stuck. It’s definitely a workout - the group of super-fit 14-year-olds I brought along were absolutely worn out afterwards, but they had an incredible time. Some of them even wanted to stay in longer, despite spending over an hour in freezing water!
For spectators, there are plenty of benches and a café serving good coffee, hot drinks, ice creams, and snacks. There’s also a separate kiosk offering hot food and the chips were great!
I was a bit nervous about the weather, especially as we drove through a downpour to get there, but there are lots of covered seating areas with great views of the water.
All in all, it’s fantastic value and a great way to get the kids out of the house doing something different. After chatting with a few other visitors, I found out people travel quite a distance to visit Cliff Lakes - so we’re lucky to have it practically on our doorstep, just outside Sutton.

SUTTON SOLVER
Can you answer this Sutton Solver?
Can you answer the following question? If so, hit reply and give us your answer for the chance to feature next week:
Q: What literary connection does Sutton Coldfield have with a famous 17th-century work?
Is it A) Robert Burton, educated at Bishop Vesey, wrote The Anatomy of Melancholy B) It is mentioned in Shakespeare’s Macbeth C) It inspired Charles Dickens’ Bleak House
The correct answer to last week’s question was C - Archaeological surveys in 2002–2003 for the M6 Toll road uncovered a Bronze Age burial mound near Langley Brook, a rare find in Birmingham, with the only other known mound in Kingstanding. Congrats to Sylvia Woodward who.
