Good morning Royal Sutton Coldfield,

Welcome back to the only Sutton Coldfield newsletter that is full of treats and has no tricks.

It is of course Halloween today and with 5th November hot on its heels there will be plenty going on over the next week - much to the joy of the kids but the dismay of dog owners.

With all that’s going on, we’ve got a bumper ‘What’s On’ section this week, so I’ve tried to keep the main editorial bonfire and Halloween free.

As a valued reader of the Sutton Insider newsletter I’d also love your input. It’s time to spend more than the initial 5 minutes I spent creating our logo (if you can even call it that).

I want it to capture the spirit of our royal town and pay homage to the history and our favourite parts of Sutton Coldfield. If you have ideas or a particular talent for this, then do get in touch - and let’s see what we can create.

Right, I promised myself I would keep my intro shorter than Rachel Reeves’ pre-budget amble and I’ve achieved that just about
 let’s get in to it

Do you love Matcha Lattes? We Need Your Help

We are on the lookout for 10 people over the age of 25 who are interested in helping us develop a brand new functional matcha latte drink that can replace your daily coffee (or other caffeinated drink) and provide a whole host of additional benefits - including longer lasting energy without the crashes, focus, improved gut health and hormone balance.

Our new brand is called Ritual + Flow and our first product will be an instant matcha latte called Matcha Flow. If you’d like to apply to our VIP Facebook Group and help us develop, refine and test our drink before launch then send us an email to [email protected] telling us why you’d like to help - even if it’s just because you want to improve your coffee habit.

SUTTON SPOTLIGHT
The Most Wonderful Windowbox In Wylde Green

For most of our readers, the Windowbox Cafe in Wylde Green will be no hidden gem - but it is a true jewel in the crown of Sutton Coldfield all the same.

There aren’t many cafes in Sutton, let alone Wylde Green that can boast past guests such as TV’s Rylan and Alison Hammond and Hollywood’s Bob Odenkirk (best known for Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul).

When they aren’t busy taking selfies with the rich and famous they are serving up some of the best breakfast, brunch and lunch grub along with some of the finest coffees in town - they must because Laura (my wife) raves about them and she’s what I officially call a ‘coffee snob’.

For me, I just love the relaxed industrial chic vibe they have going on and their food is pure heaven - last time I visited I had the avo toast with poached eggs and added smoked salmon - delish!

If by chance you haven’t been, it’s way bigger than it looks from the outside, so despite it’s popularity you’ll most likely find a seat - just head in and weave yourself through until you find a vacant pew - and if you order a tea, just ask them to show you how to use the pot if you’re unsure 😉

This week the Community Games is being held at BMET College (formerly Sutton College) on Friday 1st November from 12pm - 3pm. It promises to be a fun filled afternoon with over 20 specialised activities for everyone to enjoy.

The focus of this event is to ensure that it is an inclusive afternoon for children, young people and adults, with learning, physical and sensory disabilities. There will be a variety of different accessible sports to try and best of all it is completely FREE!

LOCAL NEWS
City Council Approves Free Parking & Travel

The town centre will get a welcome boost this winter with a free parking and travel scheme being introduced - designed to drive up footfall and retail sales during the festive period.

The town council has managed to secure the go ahead from Birmingham City Council and the move means that visitors can park for free all day Saturday and Sunday and after 4pm on Thursday’s and Friday’s starting on Thursday November 14th and ending on January 5th.

The car parks included in the scheme are council owned car parks which are Duke Street, Station Street, Upper and Lower Reddicroft, Mill Street, Anchorage Road and South Parade.

More details will be available soon regarding subsidised travel on buses and should help bring additional visitors to the Christmas market and the town centre retail and hospitality.

Well done to those involved in making this happen.

LOCAL SPORT
Results & Upcoming Games

FOOTBALL:

Sutton Coldfield Town FC took on Lye Town at home last Saturday and extended their unbeaten home run to 9 games with an emphatic 3-1 victory. The Royals have failed to beat Lye Town in 14 attempts so this was no easy game - despite what league positions would tell you.

Unfortunately, the away form is still patchy and The Royals lost out 1-0 on Tuesday away at Anstey Nomads. Despite this defeat, they still sit 6th in the league.

This Saturday they face Racing Club Warwick in a tough away fixture and go in search of a valuable 3 points.

It was a tough mid-table clash between Boldmere St Michaels and AFC Rushden & Diamonds last weekend in what turned out to be a 3-1 defeat for the travelling Mikes.

This Saturday they return to the Amber Arena to face relegation threatened Grantham Town in a 3pm Saturday kickoff as the home side look to push in to the top half of the table - why not head down and lend your support?

HOCKEY:

Sutton Coldfield Hockey Club Women’s 1st Team secured their first point of the season at home to Holcombe last weekend with a 1-1 draw. Can they go one better this Saturday when they face fellow strugglers Clifton Robinsons? A win would be a vital boost to their season and be their first of the campaign.

The Men’s First Team suffered their first defeat of the season with a 4-2 defeat in the cup last weekend. They will look forward to a return to league action this weekend as they travel to University of Birmingham 3 for a 4.30pm start on Saturday.

Where is this picture taken?

This is the last ‘Where In Sutton’ for a while as next week will see the return of Sutton Solver. Can you figure out where in Sutton this pic was taken? Hit reply and let us know first to get a mention next week.

Answer to last week: Last week the quickest person to answer was Laurence Bonner who told us the picture was of ‘Holy Trinity Parish Church taken from Church Hill’. Well done Laurence.
