Good morning Sutton Coldfield,

Welcome back to the only Sutton Coldfield newsletter that’s had more comebacks than a 90’s indie band.

As the summer draws to a close (boooo) and the kids and teachers prepare to go back to the classrooms, we are here again to celebrate all that is fab about Sutton Coldfield - and this week we are once again packed to the rafters. In fact ‘Some Might Say’ we have ‘The Masterplan' to your weekend (sorry I had to)…

So if £4 cinema tickets, freshly made bagels and supporting local charities is your bag - read on, and as always thanks for supporting Sutton Insider…

It’s been a while since Sutton Coldfield Train Station could be called exciting. But with news of Folklore opening on Monday and serving up Montreal inspired bagels and freshly brewed coffee - your commute just got a whole lot more interesting.

This is not a drill and this is no ordinary pit stop, so if you love coffee or bagels and love supporting local independents go and give these lovely folks a follow over on Instagram here, and look out for them on Platform 2 next time you are near by.

I can’t wait ☕️☕️☕️

COMMUNITY
Acorns In Mere Green Needs Your Vote

A huge congratulations to the team and volunteers at Mere Green’s Acorns Children’s Hospice retail shop who have been shortlisted for the UK’s Best Charity Shop, having overcome stiff competition they made the West Midlands top six and need your vote to go all the way and win!

Shop manager Nicky Hales says she is so proud of her team of volunteers who generously give up their time and expertise to ensure the shop is welcoming, friendly and full of items people want to buy.

This community-based shop sells everything from designer fashion pieces to household essentials with a fantastic assortment of children’s clothes and toys, there really is something for everyone! The team are so grateful for each and every donation, purchase and encouraging feedback, their goal is to raise as much money as they can for the families that Acorns support.

All the money raised via the 47 Acorns shops across Birmingham and the West Midlands goes directly to supporting the hundreds of local babies, children and young people who rely on the three Acorns Children’s Hospices for specialist 24-hour care and support.

SUTTON SPOTLIGHT
The Best Homemade Pub Food In Sutton?

As a child of the 80’s and 90’s I remember when good old fashioned home made pub food consisted of a cheese cob (or bap, barm, roll, bun etc…) on the bar.

Even though there are a few places where you can still get them, pub cuisine has moved on a bit since then - but I’m still a sucker for quality ‘home cooked’ pub food.

Which is why The Butlers Arms, just outside Mere Green, is one of my favourite places to head to in Sutton when I want ‘proper’ food.

It’s family run, has one of the most interesting interior decors of any pub I’ve seen and offers lunch and dinner menus as well as an early week offer that is simply unbeatable. They also regularly have live music and special events.

The food is supplied by local and seasonal suppliers and is simply delish. My personal faves are the Korean Fried Chicken Burger and Beer Battered Fish and Chips from the lunch menu - you know you can’t go wrong there.

It’s hardly a hidden gem, but if you have been living under a rock and not tried it I can highly recommend you give it a go.

Question Time
Sutton Solver

We are taking a break from the Sutton Solver this week - see last week’s answer below and our ‘Where In Sutton’ pic above for this week’s brain teaser.

Last week’s answer…

Q: Sutton Coldfield Town Hall was built in 1852, but how much did it cost to build?

A: The Moot Hall, or Town Hall, was built for the sum of £4,400 around 1852

If you haven’t yet followed us on Instagram, please put that right and do so here - we post throughout the week and sometimes share things that don’t make the weekly newsletter - so don’t miss out, and please give us a follow.

I had a fantastic response last week from people all over Sutton Coldfield who are interested in helping push this newsletter further. You can do your bit by referring us to others who you think would be interested in knowing what’s going on - if you hit 5 referrals we’ll give you access our exclusive Facebook group with more special offers and local deals. Hit 10 and we’ll make a £5 donation to Sutton Coldfield Food Bank on your behalf.

See you next Thursday…

Sincerely,
