Summer In Sutton Coldfield Is Not Over Yet!

Good morning Royal Sutton Coldfield,
Welcome to the only Sutton Coldfield newsletter that hangs on to Summer like we are heading in to a decade long winter.
It might have started to feel a little bit more autumnal this week but according to the MET office, astronomical summer ends on September 21st - so you have another two and a half weeks of summer still to go - and with temperatures back in the low to mid twenties this weekend, it’ll feel like it too.
It’s a good thing - as there’s so much going on this week that you wouldn’t want the weather to put a dampener on things. In fact, this week has the biggest ever Live Music and Events section we’ve had in the newsletter - so make sure you don’t miss it towards the bottom of this email.
Let’s get in to it…

LOCAL COMMUNITY
Show-stopping Fruit & Veg
One of my favourite days as a child at school was Harvest Festival. Seeing all those baskets brimming with fruits and vegetables of all sizes and colours - it was a sight to behold.
If you yearn for those days, why not relive them this Saturday as we see the return of the hotly anticipated Falcon Lodge Allotments Annual Show where there will be plants and produce on sale as well as tombola and raffle stalls, a vegetable show and refreshments.
Admission is free and it’s all happening between 1pm and 4pm, so if you want to get involved, support the local community and eat fresh and local produce - get yourselves down there before those baskets are empty.
Where: Falcon Lodge Allotments, B75 7RD
When: 1pm-4pm Saturday

Help Shape The Future Of Sutton Coldfield
Sutton Coldfield Town Council is opening up a consultation with residents over its Draft Strategic Plan for 2024-2027.
If you want to have your say on what should be prioritised, the kind of improvements that should be made to the town centre, how best to preserve the town’s heritage and more - then make your voice heard by completing the survey here before 27th September.
Copies of the survey are also available at community venues across Sutton Coldfield. You can also have your say at public meetings and meetings of local community groups. Further information on the Strategic Plan can be found here.
SOMETHING DIFFERENT
Celebrate This Keralan Festival In Wylde Green
Inji in Wylde Green is fast becoming one of my favourite haunts and next week they invite you to help celebrate The Grand Onam Sadhya - a festival deeply rooted in the culture of Kerala that celebrates a mythical ruler and the harvesting of rice.
The Onam Sadhya is a vegetarian feast of 24 dishes all served on a banana leaf.
The food looks set to be fantastic as always but booking is essential (Sunday is already sold out). You can still book spaces on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th 12pm-2pm for £24.99.
Call the restaurant on 0121 257 4096 to book today.
SUTTON SPOTLIGHT
Kids Hair Play - The Ultimate Salon For Children?
Kids Hair Play, found right next door to the also fabulous Sushido, is a hair salon designed just for kids - and it’s all about the fun…
We first found Hair Play not long after it opened in 2019 when my slightly nervous daughter needed a haircut. We’ve been going back ever since.
The staff are so friendly and make your little ones feel relaxed as soon as you walk through the door. The salon has special seats (such as a racing car), TV screens, a play area and is decorated beautifully, with a flower wall for your photos once the transformation has happened.
Whether we have been for just a trim or we’re visiting for a special treat, we’ve always come away with a happy child who feels special. They also offer Mommy or Daddy and Me packages and pamper parties to celebrate special occasions and all their stylists are fully qualified to level 3.
If you have a little one you’d like to treat to a fun hair cut then you can find out more details here.

Let Their Imaginations Run Wild
One of the best things about this newsletter is that it opens my eyes to all the wonderful things going on in our local area - and Imaginations Run Wild is yet another fantastic company that is offering something different and of high value.
Founded and run by Yvonne, a former primary school and forest school trained teacher - the initiative hopes to inspire environmental awareness in young children.
They will be running Nature Play and Stay sessions from September in Sutton Coldfield and they also offer seasonal story trail events in different locations for occasions such as Halloween and Christmas.
Mainly aimed at 3-7 year olds, these eco friendly and totally sustainable sessions are also suitable for SEN children.
You can find out more by visiting their website here.
WHERE IN SUTTON
Where is this picture taken?
This week is even harder than last week I think. It’s part of an image - so you get bonus points for working out not only what the picture is of, but where it was taken from:
Answer to last week: Did you figure out last week’s image location? It was of course Coffee #1 that featured in our Sutton Solver a few weeks ago. The original 1937 stone is still seen today that was laid by Howard Burton, founder of Burton Menswear.

Next week I’ll be bringing you the full lowdown on the event, but keep either your Saturday or Sunday clear and your stomach empty in order to make the most of the biggest food festival ever to descend on Sutton Coldfield.
