Good morning Royal Sutton Coldfield,
Welcome back to the only Sutton Coldfield newsletter that meets people from Sutton Coldfield half way across the world.
That’s right. I’m currently writing this from Chiang Mai, Thailand, where I’ve just bumped in to a guy at the conference I’m attending who was born and raised in Sutton Coldfield.
He has lived in Australia for the last 20 years, but was beaming with pride at meeting a fellow Suttonian as he reeled off all the old haunts he used to frequent.
It’s a small world and Sutton is well and truly on the map.
Laura tells me the temperatures are in stark contrast to where I am this week and as the winter weather starts to cast it’s Icy gaze across the royal town, it’s just in time for the beginning of the Christmas market.
Today we’re covering that and a lot more - so let’s go…

Don’t Miss Therapy & Flow In Wylde Green
Although I have been to Wylde Green many times I have never really noticed this little yoga studio tucked away down one of the side streets. From the outside it just looks like another shop but when you step inside you are transported into a calm, cosy yoga shala which also has a gorgeous treatment area.
I was treated to a fabulous massage by Jane who makes up part of the team at Therapy and Flow. She tailors the massage to suit your needs and works on any areas that are causing you pain. She has a range of treatments on offer, including Reiki, reflexology and hot stones. To make your experience extra luxurious she not only has a heated bed but also warms the pillows and cushions she uses to support your body during the treatment. Bliss!
Therapy and Flow also offers a range of yoga and wellness classes including Hatha, restorative, Yin yoga, beginners, pregnancy yoga, mother & baby yoga, soundbath, meditation and relaxation. So there really is something for everybody!
Keep your eyes on their instagram account @therapy_and_flow, for upcoming retreat days and special events.

LOCAL NEWS
Local Charity Doing Truly Inspirational Work
The charity Cherished have recently opened their brand new Cherished Connection Hub in the centre of Sutton Coldfield. This is a community space to attend their training events, refer a child for support and for local charities and businesses to use the space for their own services.
The organisation is truly inspirational, their mission is to create a nurturing environment where every child feels safe, seen, soothed and secure. They do this through offering a range of services including 1:1 mentoring, Cherished courses for girls in school, Roar courses for boys in school (which both focus on themes including managing emotions, relationships, friendships and recognising strengths) and Blossom & Roar after-school groups for children to make friends, develop self-esteem and build confidence.
This is such important work as children spend more and more time online, they aim to foster connections and make sure children do not feel alone.
Their upcoming events and workshops include:
Trauma Training - 26th November 6-8pm
Open Door Event - 28th November 10-12pm
Therapeutic Art Sessions For Children - primary (23rd Nov 10-11.30am) secondary (7th Dec 10-11.30am).
Parent & Child Christmas Workshop - 5th December 9.30-11am
Mental Health First Aid Training For Leaders & Managers - 9th Jan

LOCAL SPORT
Results & Upcoming Games
FOOTBALL:
We thought the return to their home ground would see Sutton Coldfield Town FC reverse their recent fortunes after a poor run of form away from home. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be last Saturday as they went down in a crushing 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Shepshed Dynamo.
That defeat saw The Royals drop to 11th in the league and they’ll be hoping to stop the slide this Saturday when they travel to strugglers Grantham Town.
Boldmere St Michaels have been in good form of late but didn’t have enough to overcome a strong Worcester City side last Saturday suffering a 1-0 defeat in front of a crowd of 753.
This weekend The Mikes face Hinckley LR at home and will be hopeful of securing all three points as they aim to move in to a top 6 position.
HOCKEY:
A really tough game for Sutton Coldfield Women’s First XI last week as they suffered a 5-1 defeat at the hands of third placed Surbiton. This weekend they take on Wimbledon as they remain in search of their first league win of the season.
It’s been a much more positive season for the Men’s First XI and they continued to impress last weekend with a 6-3 win over Bournville and Kings Heath. This weekend they take on Beeston at Wyndley.

Christmas Bauble Workshop With A Twist
Inji are offering something a bit different in the run up to Christmas with a Batik Christmas bauble workshop. Batik is the art of decorating cloth using wax and dye and has been practiced for centuries in many parts of the world including China, India, South America and Indonesia.
Shirlyn Low, who is running the workshop, is a Malaysian Batik artist who now lives in the UK and puts her own modern spin on the ancient craft. Her own work is stunning and can be found on display at The Potteries Centre in Stoke-On-Trent or more locally at The RBSA gallery in Birmingham.
During the workshop at Inji you will create your own Christmas ornaments with a touch of traditional batik art to take home and decorate your house. You will also be able to tuck into some delicious Keralan cuisine from Inji.
